Ahimsa - (Kindness) -
Respect for all living things and avoidance of violence towards others. Two examples that come to mind on how I practice Ahimsa is reflected in how I eat and behave in nature*. Personally, I enjoy eating eggs, beef tacos on a Tuesday and so forth! Needless to say, I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian. But I do choose to be selective on the animal products I eat. Opting for varieties that are sustainably sourced and humanely raised.
Additionally, I see no need in killing living things that are in their natural environment; so if I'm outside and see a bug, my first thought isn't to stomp on it but instead to go in another direction if I feel threatened. These actions bring me peace of mind and remind me of my place in this circle of life.
*Some could argue advertising "sustainably sourced and humanely raised" are marketing tactics. I say, this may be true but the actions of others are not within or immediate control. We can only do our best.
